Non-engineers are now writing more AI generated code than ever with recent reports showing that GitHub commits are up 14x year on year with folks like designers, PMs and marketers all using AI to build vibe coded apps.

Anyone who’s worked on building internal tools will tell you that dashboards are one of the most common build requests - and while previously, building a reliable, useful dashboard filled with data might take a few weeks, non-engineers can now build one in an afternoon.

Just last week, Rippling’s CEO shared an example of a dashboard he’s built to monitor inefficient Claude spend and one VC said that dashboard-style tools are “exactly the category a mid-level employee with domain expertise and an AI coding agent can ship in a sprint”.1

In other words, building custom real-time dashboards is starting to become akin to building spreadsheets.

In this Knowledge Series, we’ll explore how you can build the ultimate product dashboard that not only includes the data you want to see at a glance every day - but also lets you actually do something with that data, too.

The Knowledge Series

What we’ll build together

Here’s a snapshot of what we’ll build together:

As you can see, this tool is built as a new feature inside the tool we previously built together which now includes the feature persona tester, strategy thought partner and the new dashboard.

This dashboard lets you review important data, select the data points you want and generate stakeholder updates based on that data in either a Slack message, email or voice note.

Your ultimate product dashboard can contain whatever data you want but for this example, it includes:

  • Product health metrics - key numbers across users, UX, commercial performance and engineering velocity, all visible at a glance

  • A decision queue - the decisions that are waiting for a yes or no, with context attached so you can act fast, based on your own inbox and Slack threads

  • Live work in progress - your team’s current sprint and backlog, pulled directly from sources like Linear or Jira

  • Competitor intelligence - the latest updates from your competitors’ blogs and news mentions, refreshed automatically

  • A principle of the day - a rotating card from your favorite product books to keep your thinking sharp

  • A stakeholder update generator - select any data points from the dashboard and generate a tailored Slack message, email or spoken voice update for your C-suite, your users, or your team in one click

Coming up:

We’ll work through this process of building the dashboard together, including:

  • A step by step guide to building your own ultimate product dashboard

  • Prompts and templates you can use

  • A downloadable ready to use template version of this dashboard

Getting started

The dashboard we’re building has two core jobs: the first is to give you a snapshot of your product’s current state and competitive environment and the second is communication generation where you can select any of the data points, pick a format and an audience and get a first draft of your comms.
